Government Medical Colleges in India

The number of MBBS seats available in India is restricted, and the competition is fierce. A candidate pursuing medical courses in the MBBS programs must take the NEET entrance exams. Every year, the central board of secondary education conducts NEET for all India MBBS seats. Other than NEET, there are no other national level entrance examinations in India for complete MBBS seats.  The NEET is used to determine admission to prestigious government colleges such as AIIMS and JIPMER.

Almost all medical aspirant students want to study in a government medical college due to many patients, lower fees, better lecturers and colleagues, exposure, and so on. You can’t be a good doctor until you have enough patients to practice on.

Advantages of studying in Government Medical Colleges in India

This is an often-asked subject in medical education, and I’ll try to be as brief and to-the-point as possible in my response to the subject of the advantages of government colleges over private colleges –

1. Fees

One of the most important factors is the cost of education. Private schools charge up to ten lakhs per year, whereas government universities charge no more than three lakhs per year.

2. Exposure

Government Medical Colleges provide more exposure to internships and research since doctors prefer government college medics to private college medics, leading to important advancements in the medical field.

3. Research

Because there are still a limited number of government-sponsored medical schools, there are various government-sponsored research options to consider when applying to a government-sponsored medical school.
